Beautiful things don't ask for attention.

There is a truth I will teach my daughters. There is a song worth singing.

LXXIV

Life doesn’t work the way people lead you to believe. It’s not always an upward slope. Sometimes there are downfalls. Sometimes there are pitfalls. Sometimes there are plummets back to the bottom where you started. Sometimes you lose your foothold. Sometimes you forget the direction you were heading in. Sometimes you lose the war. That’s how it is.

But only sometimes

And sometimes, you win.

ANONYMOUS PT II.

Did I mention Zulu & Zephyr? Did I mention the gaze.

There's something about product editorials such as this - there's an anonymity, a focus on the product, yes, but also an element of 'you could be this girl' and 'this could be your world' and 'this should be your world' and 'you should be this girl' that is both incredibly artistic, truly captivating, and very effective marketing.

But you can't just construct this kind of gaze, if it is contrived it doesn't work. These photographs simply work in their simplicity, their effortlessness, and that Australian nonchalance I mentioned.

This could be me. This could be my world.

On my Christmas wishlist. Wanderlust list. Skills-I-wish-I-had list. Major-respect list. Shall I continue?

ANONYMOUS.

A little bit in love with these shots by Purienne for Zulu & Zephyr's new collection. The emerging label impressively toes the line between tropical luxe and Australian nonchalance - but its the way that Purienne shoots women and the gaze that really gets me.

A running theme in my consciousness right now. You'll see.
